OCTOBER 5, 2011 OPENING DAY FOR DMWC
Invite a friend and stroll down memory lane with John Zickefoose performing
TIN-PAN-THOLOGY, a cabaret act culled from the music halls and drawing
rooms at the turn of the last century. It was originally performed in
many Manhattan cabarets. Listen to the songs of America’s finest
composers: George N. Cohan; Jerome Kern; Irving Berlin; and others whose
songs reflected life in the early 1900’s.

OCTOBER 28, 2011 GWEN ZNEROLD LECTURE
Well-known antique authority and collector Gwen Znerold has made pearls
her topic this year. Her lecture, “Pearls of Wisdom,” about
the history and value of pearls, will be followed by lunch in the Gallery.

OCTOBER 25, 2011 PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS’ COFFEE
Do you know someone who might be interested in joining the Des Moines
Women’s Club? The Prospective Members’ Coffee is an informal
way to introduce women to the Club and to Hoyt Sherman Place. Your friends
will enjoy coffee and light snacks while they learn about Club activities
and opportunities.

Start collecting your gently used household items now, for the annual
flea market in November. There are always unexpected treasures to be found.

The basket auction looks new and different every year, as members out-do
each other in creating beautiful baskets that make wonderful holiday gifts.

Get into a holiday mood while enjoying a festive lunch followed by a variety
of games and good conversation.

25 –MARCH 4, 2012 104TH ART EXHIBITION
Artists throughout Central Iowa look forward to this annual opportunity
to showcase their work in the beautiful Hoyt Sherman Place Art Galleries.
The exhibition is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
Many of the works are available for purchase.

2012 BLOOMIN’ PLANT SALE
Plan to fill your garden and planters with colorful blooms! Order forms
are distributed in late February and March, for fresh, blooming geraniums,
impatiens, and petunias. Friday, May 4 is pick-up day.

APRIL 18, 2012 SCHOLARSHIP DAY
Every year in April we honor scholarship winners from area schools and
colleges. Club members are treated to songs, dances, readings and videos
as the individual winners show off their talents in the auditorium. The
annual scholarship awards are the culmination of weeks of essay reading
and auditions managed by the dedicated members of each of the Scholarship
committees.

MAY 9, 2012 MAY DAY
Our May Day luncheon will feature sweet music from The Sweet Adelines.
Enjoy musical selections from a female barbershop quartet whose tunes
hark back to the early years of our club.

JUNE 13, 2012 SUMMER CARD PARTY
What a great way to start the summer! Bring some friends and enjoy a luncheon
and style show, with games and conversation afterwards. There will be
bridge, board games, Bunko, Bingo and more!

AUGUST 4, 2012 SIZZLIN’ SUMMER BBQ
This annual sizzlin’ summer event is a night not to be missed! Come
on in and sit down to great barbequed pork loin, baked beans, potato salad
and coleslaw. Top it all off with a delicious brownie.
